Aphidius sp. is a parasitic wasp used to control eggs of aphids. The adults are tiny (2-3 mm), dark colored. Larvae develop entirely inside the aphids. Aphidius is an outstanding searcher, and can locate new aphid colonies even when aphid populations are low.
Mode of action:The adult female parasitoid searches for and lays eggs inside aphids. Its larvae feed on and kill the aphid from within. The parasitized aphid hardens and becomes puffy, forming a bronze, grey or brown mummy. The adult wasps emerge through a round hole in the mummy, ready to find more aphids to parasitize.
